Ford Speedometer Recall: What F-150 and Super Duty Owners in Bossier City and Shreveport Should Know

Drive anywhere around Bossier City, Shreveport, Benton, or Haughton and you'll see Ford trucks everywhere — in driveways, on job sites, and pulling boats down to the lake. That's why we want our neighbors to know about a new federal safety recall covering more than 100,000 of them.
What's the problem?
In early October 2026, Ford notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a defect in the analog instrument cluster on certain trucks. On affected vehicles, the speedometer and tachometer needles can freeze in place or swing around erratically, so the gauge may not show how fast you're really going.
That might sound like a small annoyance, but NHTSA classifies it as a safety issue. If your speedometer is wrong, you can end up driving much faster than you think — on I-20, on the Jimmie Davis Bridge, or in a school zone — and that raises the chance of a crash. Because the gauges don't work as required, the trucks also fall short of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 101, which covers controls and displays.
Which vehicles are included?
NHTSA lists this recall as campaign 26V-653. Ford's own recall number is 26C46. About 102,159 vehicles may be affected, including certain:
- 2026 Ford F-150
- 2025–2026 Ford F-250 Super Duty
- 2025–2026 Ford F-350 Super Duty
- 2025–2026 Ford F-450 Super Duty
- 2025–2026 Ford F-550 Super Duty
- 2025–2026 Ford F-600
- 2026 Ford F-750
The recall only covers trucks with the analog gauge cluster, and not every truck on the list is included. Your VIN is the only way to know for sure.
How to check your VIN
It takes about a minute:
- Find your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number. It's on the driver's side of the dashboard where it meets the windshield, on the driver's door jamb, and on your registration and insurance card.
- Go to nhtsa.gov/recalls and type it in.
- The results will list any open recalls on your vehicle, not only this one.
According to NHTSA, VINs for this recall became searchable on October 7, 2026. While you're on the site, it's worth checking your other vehicles too. Several other 2026 F-150 recalls have come out recently.
Is the fix free?
Yes. Under federal law, safety recall repairs are done free of charge at a franchised Ford dealer. Here, the remedy is a new instrument cluster module.
One thing to know about timing: according to NHTSA's filing, Ford plans to mail interim notice letters around October 26, 2026. The actual fix isn't expected to be ready until about December 2026, and Ford will send a second letter when it is. Until then, owners can call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with questions.
Warning signs to watch for in the meantime
Until the repair is ready, keep an eye on your gauges:
- A speedometer needle that stays still while you speed up or slow down
- Needles that jump, flicker, or sweep around for no reason
- A speedometer that doesn't match what you feel or the traffic around you
- A tachometer that doesn't respond when the engine revs
If you notice any of these, stay with the flow of traffic. You can also check your speed with a phone GPS app (mounted, hands-free) or a roadside speed sign. Get the truck checked as soon as you can, and if it doesn't feel safe to drive, don't risk it. Call us for a tow instead.
We haven't seen this issue in our shop yet, but we'd rather get the word out early than have a neighbor find out the hard way.
How Red River Auto Care can help
We don't do manufacturer recall repairs ourselves, since Ford handles those through its dealers. We're still glad to help local drivers through the process:
- Free check-engine code scans. If a warning light comes on along with gauge trouble, stop in and we'll pull the codes at no charge so you know what's going on. Our check engine light diagnostics page explains what those codes can mean.
- Inspections. If your gauges are acting up and you're not sure the recall is the cause, we can look the truck over and tell you what we find. Then you'll know whether to head to the dealer or have us take care of a separate issue.
- 24/7 towing. If your truck doesn't feel safe to drive, call us any time, day or night, and our 24/7 towing crew can get it to the dealer for the recall work.
- Everything else your truck needs. Brakes, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, backed by our lifetime parts and 2-year labor warranty.
We're here in South Bossier to help drivers in any situation. We can't fix everything, but if we can't, we probably know someone who can, and we'll point you in the right direction. Helping a driver isn't about making money every time. It's about being a good neighbor.
Bottom line
If you own a 2025–2026 Super Duty or a 2026 F-150, check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls today. Keep an eye on your gauges until Ford's fix is available, and don't put up with a speedometer you can't trust.
